About Us

Warehouse Gourmet is a Casual Bistro Restaurant
and Local Caterer.

We opened our doors on October 4, 2005, as a catering business with carry-out and delivery.  As word got out and interest in the food grew, our customers kept asking, "When are you going to open a sit-down area for us to dine?"  We had always planned to open a little bistro and were just waiting for the right time.  Fortunately, that time arrived and The Warehouse Gourmet Bistro officially opened in December 2010.

The Warehouse Gourmet Bistro is quaint, casual and seats around 35-40 guests.  All of our food is handmade including all breads and desserts. The menu ranges from soups and sandwiches to nighttime bistro entrees.  As a gesture of respect to our customers we strive to keep dishes below $20.00. With our casual atmosphere and affordable prices, you can dine here many times a month like the true bistros in France.

Warehouse Gourmet Bistro is BYOB (bring your own bottle) and we supply wine and beer glasses for you.

Warehouse Gourmet continues Catering all types of events in the local area.  From business luncheons to baby showers to class reunions to weddings, we serve all sorts of gatherings from 2 to 200 guests.

Warehouse Gourmet also continues
delivering food with upscale flair and flavors into your homes and businesses.  Our handmade food is a great alternative to your usual delivery choices.  Many of our customers coordinate their drive home from work with a phone order and carryout.

Melinda & Keith Stambaugh, owners

The Warehouse

The actual "Warehouse" has gone through many changes over its 100 years of existence. From cigar factory, to ribbon factory, to fine furniture manufacturer, to frame shop, to storage facility, to Keith's "Screaming Peacock"Studio, The Warehouse is now home base for the bistro and catering business.  Its renovation is a great addition to the revitalization of downtown Hanover.

It's exciting when customers give new tidbits of history about the building!  Following is an original picture of workers from the ribbon factory in 1912:

Background Information

Warehouse Gourmet & Catering Co. was recently voted Entrepreneur of The Year 2010 by The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce.

The owners of Warehouse Gourmet were born and raised in Hanover, PA.  It is a  family owned business. Melinda Bortner Stambaugh graduated from Cornell University's prestigious School of Hotel Administration. She has been working in the restaurant industry from Hanover to NYC for the past 24 years. Keith Stambaugh is a talented bread baker and internationally recognized fine artist.

Back in 2005, Melinda and Keith were the sole workers of the business.  Warehouse Gourmet has grown over the years and now has many more employees to help maintain the integrity of the food and service.  Lamar and Pat Bortner (Melinda's parents) have been helping for the past 5 years and have learned a great deal about the restaurant business. Originally, Lamar helped cook but has become an integral part in running the business.  Pat has been taking phone orders and has recently become Catering Director.  You will often see them helping in the dining room and even making deliveries!

David Matthew Bortner (Melinda's cousin) has become the new Head Chef since the bistro opened.  His creative entrees have added a wonderful dimension to the already exceptional menu.  Amber Toot (a family friend) has become the New Head Pastry Chef.  Her delicious desserts add the perfect finishing touch to the meal.  You will also see her helping in the dining room!

The kitchen staff and dining room staff keeps growing.  Melinda is steering the ship.  And, Keith continues to bake the breads and is now brewing Beer!

The Warehouse 2011 AFTER Renovations!

The Future is now!

We have grown and changed over the years. Our roots are firmly set in Hanover thanks to a diverse group of loyal customers. Renovation on the outside of The Warehouse continues.

We are currently in the process of building a warm front porch area for guests to relax while
waiting for a table.

And, we have recently been approved by the Hanover Borough to open Hanover's first Microbrewery.  We are in the process of applying for a Brewers License with Pennsylvania's LCB.

Keith's brewing beer.  Really, really good beer.  Recent fermentations include, "Warehouse Passive/Aggressive Pale Ale,"  "Keith's Hopknocker IPA" and "The Leggy Blonde Imperial Blonde Ale."   Stay tuned for progress reports and updates.  Join the email list.  Cheers!
